Uriel Ortega is a photographer with an architectural background based in New York City.
His photography focuses on the transient nature of light, specifically as it manifests itself on architectural volumes and surfaces. Architectural details are accentuated by the various, and often subtle, intensities of the sun. Additionally, he is drawn to the way light, or the absence thereof, enhances the dichotomy of personal solitude and dense urban life.
Uriel spent ten years honing his design skills in New York City working in architecture firms on residential and commercial projects. He was born in Mexico and raised in Chicago, where he studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. After New York, Uriel spent five years living in the Coachella Valley, which provided him endless inspiration with its vast horizons and intense lights.
The work of André Kertész, Edward Weston, Ray Metzker, Tina Modotti, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Lucien Herve, to name a few, continue to inspire him.
